ABOUT OASIS
Just a simple conversation with a senior provides him or her with hours of bliss. OASIS is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving and enabling the immigrant elderly population. We strive to prevent social isolation, which could lead to irreversible psychological trauma. Our founders, Vinayak and Ashutosh Raman conceived the idea for the coalition after heartbreaking events struck numerous loved elders.
In 2012, the Ramans started out by helping move a fragile community grandfather to his native city of Chennai, India after the tragic demise of his wife. Since then, the brothers have indulged in regular conversations with him and these heartfelt discussions have brought them to the sad realization that he only relocated due to the overwhelming isolation he experienced in Oklahoma. The community had lost the opportunity to avail of his wisdom and knowledge. The brothers realized that stronger measures would need to be taken to prevent future repetitions of this case.
At OASIS, we are creating a symbiotic bridge between a youth’s strength and companionship and an elder’s experience and mentorship. Our members are adept in an array of languages, ranging from across Asia, allowing us to reinforce this bridge. This synergy creates a mutually interested community, leading to an involved elder.
